You can’t, it seems, keep a good girl down. Two years ago, Melbourne matriarch Dame Edna Everage announced that she was hanging up her gladiolus to embark on an international farewell tour. Despite retiring from the comedy circuit, the purple-haired housewife still makes the odd appearance, and to our delight she is starring in the first episode of “The Great British Comic Relief Bake Off.” With her glorious acerbic wit and rampant ego, who could be better at a bit of “Bake Off” innuendo? Having raised three children and spent many years being wrist-deep in grey washing-up water and mutton fat and peas, Dame Edna has plenty of experience in the kitchen.
