“Oscar Wao” Is Top 21st-Century Novel
A group of American critics has named Junot DÃaz’s “The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao,” a take on the life of an overweight Dominican-American nerd, as the best novel of the 21st century to date. (The list is heavily weighted to books written in English.) I didn’t find “Wao” much of a wow: the main character was so obnoxious I only got about halfway through the story.
