Hip-Hop Just As Hard As Ballet
So says the divoon ballerina Darcey Bussell, the former Royal Ballet star who is the face of a new talent show, “BBC Young Dancer 2015.” The contest will be divided into four categories – ballet, contemporary, hip hop and South Asian dance. Asked if traditionalists woud be surprised to see hip hop given equal billing to ballet, Bussell said: “Well, it has its own tradition. The only thing that is different is that its history is just shorter.” Miss Bussell added: “I’ve tried to do some hip hop and it is so difficult. You need so many many many things to be able to do hip hop – extraordinary strength and ability.”
