The Best New TV Show Of 2015
I’ve only seen the first two of its eight episodes, but “Cucumber,” about to start airing on Channel 4 in Britain and Logo later this year in the U.S., is so far the most engaging new TV show of 2015. It tells the story of Henry, played winningly by Vincent Franklin (pictured). Henry rejects a marriage proposal from Lance, his terribly nice boyfriend of 10 years. He turns his back on the beautifully appointed home they share in a leafy Manchester (UK) suburb. It’s all a very amusing, sexually explicit comedy. Henry allows himself to be drawn into the world of two young gay men who live, with uncertain tenancy rights, in a freezing cold, inner-city warehouse. “Cucumber,” brought to us by Russell T. Davies, the originator of “Queer as Folk,” is part of a multi-platform project, which includes another series, “Banana,” which follows the lives of the younger “Cucumber” members; and, online, there’s a factual series about sexual mores, “Tofu.” Don’t miss all this!
