“Diner” The Musical: Reviews
“Diner,” Barry Levinson’s 1982 film about six Baltimore chums savoring their last gasps of 1950s adolescence, has been turned by scripter Levinson and songwriter/lyricist Sheryl Crow into a musical. It just premiered at the Signature Theater in Arlington, Va. Variety says the show is “just as touching and entertaining as the movie.” But the probably more reliable Peter Marks, in the Washington Post, writes that the show has ‘a nagging flatness of execution and the sense that Levinson and Crow are still groping for an optimal structure to unite music, characters and story.’
