Green Bean Casserole!
Some traditions are meant to be tinkered with. When Campbell’s Soup invented green bean casserole in 1955, it was meant to be a quick, easy side dish made with ingredients most home cooks had on hand at the time — canned green beans and condensed Cream of Mushroom soup. Great news: it isn’t 1955 anymore and you only have to use canned soup if you want to. There are lots of different ways to modify and improve upon this iconic casserole. Just substituting fresh green beans instead of canned or frozen can make a world of difference. Making your own mushroom sauce is the next step. And finally, for the brave and bold, you can fry your own onions (or even shallots!) to put on top. We dug up a few of our favorite takes on green bean casserole, from the traditional to the very modern.
