World Series Tonight Taps Joyce DiDonato
Hooray! For tonight’s World Series game in Kansas City (the Royals face elimination from the San Francisco Giants), Joyce DiDonato, the opera singer of the moment and a Kansas native, will sing the National Anthem. San Francisco likes to think of itself as big and sophisticated (rather than small and smug) but when the Series game was held at its ballpark on Sunday the country singer Aaron Lewis gave a disastrous Anthem performance. (He apologized later.) I suspect that Joyce will do much much better, and prove that Kansas City isn’t just a big cow town.
