Carol Channing Onstage Again!
I always say that if Carol Channing, age 93, can get out of bed every morning, so can I. And if the living embodiment of Dolly Levi can still set foot on a stage, then I can do more than get out of bed: I can leap! Carol no longer shimmies and shakes down those Dolly stairs anymore, but she does occasionally make appearances, usually in the company of her longtime protege, that tall drink of Texas water, Tommy Tune. The pair has just announced “Time Steppin'”, an evening at the Curran Theater in San Francisco. The Curran is where Carol got struck as a kid with the stage bug (“That place was a cathedral to me”), so it’s a holy homecoming of sorts.
