“Black-ish”: Should You Watch?
“Black-ish” is being hailed as the “best new comedy” on network TV, a worthy follow-up to its lead-in, “Modern Family,” so I watched last night’s episode. It wasn’t awful, but I didn’t laugh once, and this is a problem when you are calling yourself a comedy. The episode was essentially one joke beat to death: Dad (Anthony Anderson) walked in on his young son masturbating (like I said: beat to death) and agonized about having “the Talk” with him. Meanwhile, Mom (Tracee Ellis Ross, daughter of Diana Ross) thinks herself an expert at having “the Talk” with the kids. Laurence Fishburne, as Gramps, wandered in and out.
