White Person Is Still Playing Moses
In the 1950s, when Charlton Heston played Moses in “The Ten Commandments,” Hollywood routinely cast lily-white people as Egyptians and Palestinians (and Chinese and Indians and…). But why is it still being done now? The Christmas release “Exodus: Gods and Kings,” directed by Ridley Scott, has Christian Bale (pictured) as Moses. In an interview this week, Bale said that Moses ‘was a very troubled, tumultuous man and mercurial.’ He also didn’t have ancestry from the British Isles.
