Movies: I highly recommend the touching, upbeat “Pride,” about gays showing support for striking Welsh miners in 1984. If you crave action, Denzel in “The Equalizer” is your ticket. Television: James Franco’s long-shelved documentary about “Saturday Night Live will air Friday on Hulu. Music: I sometimes like Tony Bennett and I sometimes like Lady Gaga, but I’m not nuts about their new collaboration of standards, “Cheek to Cheek.” Books: I’m almost the only person I know who hasn’t read Gillan Flynn’s “Gone Girl,” and the release of a well-reviewed movie version relieves me of any further obligation. Sports: With the Yankees and Mets not making the playoffs, I’m searching for a team to root for. Kansas City? Finally: The leaves have started changing color: does that mean a cold winter ahead?
