Streisand Is Everywhere This Week
Well, she has her new album of duets to promote, so why not? Her appearance on Fallon last night was the first time I’ve watched that program straight through. He did his usual bad-interviewer gush with her, but the appearance blew up Twitter, so what the hey? The CD is number one: the combination of Babs plus all those other people who are commercial — John Mayer, Josh Groban — ensured success. But not with Stephen (Fucking) Holden in the New York Times, who did not do a Fallon swoon: ‘The instrumentation and the vocal tracks are so processed in pursuit of a high-gloss perfection that any sense of two people standing side by side and singing their hearts out is lost.’
