Stevie Wonder To Tour “Songs”
I basically spent my teen years, in the 1970s, listening to his albums. So I’m heartened with this news: back, Stevie Wonder is throwing his hat into the ring by announcing the “Songs in the Key of Life Performance†tour, a 10-city trek that will kick off Sept. 22 in New York’s Madison Square Garden. “Songs in the Key of Life,†released by Motown’s Tamla label in 1976, is considered the last of a string of masterpieces from the singer-songwriter-multi-instrumentalist that began with 1972’s “Music of My Mind.†It arrived as a double album’s worth of material, with a four-song bonus EP, at a time when the format was considered the peak pop statement, with artists like the Rolling Stones (1972’s “Exile on Main Streetâ€), Elton John (1973’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Roadâ€) and Led Zeppelin (1975’s “Physical Graffitiâ€) also having crested with similarly expansive packages.
