Ground Zero Arts Center Nixes Gehry Design

You think it took a long time to complete the skyscraper that’s replacing the World Trade Center? It’s taking even longer to do the Performing Arts Center at the site. In fact, I’m dubious as to whether the thing will ever be completed. Latest wrinkle: The board of the performing arts center planned for ground zero has scuttled the pictured design for the building by Frank Gehry, the project’s original architect, and will instead select a design from a field of three finalists. The project’s board didn’t even bother to tell Gehry of their decision directly. Amateurs!
