Movies: I’ve seen “Guardians of the Galaxy“: Entertaining but too long. I can’t wait to see the James Brown biopic, “Get On Up,” featuring my favorite actress, Viola Davis. Music: On “Great Performances,” Gustavo Dudamel conducts the L.A. Philharmonic in Verdi’s “Requiem.” Television: Thank God “Vicious” is wrapping up its season: so not funny. Are you watching “Flipping the Block” on HGTV? Books: Ben Macintyre’s “A Spy Among Friends,” about the British traitor Kim Philby, is a compelling story and extremely well-written. Sports: It’s still summer, but football is back! The Giants and the Bills kick off the preseason with the Hall of Fame game on Sunday. Finally: It’s August and I still haven’t dived into a pool. Pathetic!
