Your Weekend: A Selective Guide
Movies: Herk-a-lees! Herk-a-lees! As well as “Hercules,” with Dwayne Johnson. The annual Woody Allen has arrived: “Magic in the Moonlight.” Television: The arrival of a new Le Carre movie (“A Most Wanted Man”) sent me to YouTube to watch all the episodes of the thrilling 1979 series, “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.” On Sunday, don’t you dare miss the premiere of “Manhattan,” about the development of the a-bomb and starring LW’s friend John Benjamin Hickey. Music: I’m so tired of all the new releases, especially from Weird Al Yankovic, so I’m taking refuge in “The Very Best Of Pat Suzuki.” Books: The long list for the Man Booker Prize has been announced, and I’m looking forward to two nominees: novels by David Mitchell (“The Bone Clocks“) and Joseph O’Neill (“The Dog“). Sports: Nothing to do in this slowest part of the year but watch arena football. Finally: It’s hard to get mad only at Vladimir Putin when the West is selling Russia so many of those weapons being used in Ukraine.
