Kevin Spacey Tells Off Audience Member
Kevin Spacey has just opened to rave reviews in London for a one-man show in which he plays radical lawyer Clarence Darrow. (Spacey has played the real-life character before, in a 1991 movie and in “Inherit the Wind.”) The other night, Spacey channeled some of Darrow’s fabled fury after an audience member’s phone kept going off. Music from the device grew louder and louder as the “House of Cards” star was making an impassioned speech as Darrow. Eventually, while staying in character, Spacey told the culprit: “If you don’t answer that, I will.” The rest of the audience applauded his intervention. Patti LuPone, a virtuoso of audience shaming, would have been proud.
