Alice Ghostley Sings “Boston Beguine”
I once interviewed Alice Ghostley. Mostly, we talked about her crazy pal Paul Lynde, but we also touched upon her roles in “To Kill a Mockingbird” (the neighborhood gossip Stephanie), “Bewitched” (Esmeralda), and “Designing Women” (the tart-tongued Bernice). Ghostley was also a singer, as you will see in the above clip from the 1954 film version of “New Faces of 1952.” Miss Alice trills Sheldon Harnick’s “Boston Beguine,†which she also performed in the original Broadway production.
