Your Weekend: A Selective Guide
Movies: I highly recommend “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” It will wipe the sour taste of “Godzilla” out of your mouth. Television: “The Normal Heart,” the HBO adaptation of the 1985 Larry Kramer play airing Sunday, focuses a bit more on the love story than the stage drama did. I confess to preferring the agitprop of the live performance, but the new version is worth watching. Music: I tried again to listen to the new Michael Jackson, “XSCAPE,” but apart from the duet with Justin Timberlake I’m not enthralled. Books: “No Place To Hide,” Glenn Greenwald’s book on Edward Snowden and the NSA, is alternately persuasive and abrasive — in other words, worth your time. Sports: I’ve got one eye on the NBA playoffs (anyone but Miami), but both eyes on the Rangers in the NHL playoffs. Finally: In my youth, we’d visit family graves on Memorial Day. Now, I go to the movies.
