Why Is “Star Wars” Shooting In Abu Dhabi?
Director JJ Abrams and his new “Star Wars” movie are shooting in Abu Dhabi. This is a country that has a brutal human-rights record. Migrant workers who construct its glittering government-backed buildings are subjected to subhuman living conditions. And Article 80 of the Abu Dhabi Penal Code makes sodomy punishable with imprisonment of up to 14 years, a law that is used to throw LGBT people in jail for long stretches. Doesn’t Abrams know he is giving business to a country led by a cruel regime?
