“Wolf Hall” Comes To The Stage
I have a surprising number of friends who found “Wolf Hall,” Hilary Mantel‘s wildly acclaimed novel about Thomas Cromwell and Henry VIII, so long-winded that they couldn’t finish it, much less the follow-up, “Bring Up The Bodies.” Perhaps those curmudgeons will find the stage adaptation of Mantel’s books, which has just opened in London, to be more to their liking. The Telegraph says: ‘If these adaptations cannot quite capture the haunting strangeness that makes Mantel’s fictions so potently original, their verve, intelligence and wit are exhilarating, nonetheless.’ FYI, a TV mini-series of “Wolf Hall” is in production, with Mark Rylance as Cromwell.
