Carrie Brownstein Joins Blanchett In “Carol”
Carrie Brownstein (pictured), of Sleater-Kinney and “Portlandia” fame, will now cross over to the world of film, as The Hollywood Reporter notes. Brownstein will star in the upcoming film “Carol,” from director Todd Haynes, alongside Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara, Kyle Chandler, and Sarah Paulson. It begins shooting this month. Carol is based on Patricia Highsmith’s 1952 novel “The Price of Salt.” (Highsmith also wrote “The Talented Mr. Ripley.”) It tells the story of Therese (Mara), a department store clerk in 1950s New York who becomes obsessed with another woman (Blanchett). Brownstein will play Genevieve Cantrell, a woman “who has an encounter” with Mara’s character.
