Women Of Soul Rock The White House

If you missed “Women of Soul at the White House” when it was on PBS the other night, you missed something special. (Watch the entire program here.) Patti LaBelle singing “Lady Marmalade” with the same power she did 40 years ago, “The Voice”‘s Tessanne Chin doing Donna Summer’s “Last Dance” justice, little Arianna Grande with an alarmingly big voice, the absolutely fantastic, sadly underrated Jill Scott going 2 for 2, Janelle Monaie honoring Shirley Bassey of all mentors, and then there is Aretha, walking into an overheated room in the White House in a who-gives-a-shit mink jacket and then destroying everyone with a wall blasting rendition of her very first hit “I Never Loved a Man the Way I Loved You.”
