Beyoncé Graces Cover Of Out
Beyoncé has done her first magazine cover since the stealth drop of her fifth, self-titled album in December. I’m happy to say she chose Out, of which I was once editor-in-chief, for the honor. Miss Bey tells Aaron Hicklin all about the top-secret creation of the CD and about its message of female empowerment. “Women should own their sexuality,” she says. “Men are free and women are not. That is crazy. The old lessons of submissiveness and fragility made us victims. Women are so much more than that.” As for the magazine cover, it’s striking, and I envy the fact that Out no longer has to worry so much about newsstand sales and the need for cover lines, as we did back in the day. One could argue that a photo of Beyoncé doesn’t require cover lines, but, believe me, Vogue or People or even more specialized mags like Interview would never dispense with a chance to promote what’s inside.
