The Sow Steals Every Scene

Well, what did they expect? Actors are used to being upstaged by dogs and children, but not by pigs. It’s no surprise that in “Betty Blue Eyes,” the musical adaptation of the 1984 film “A Private Function” (co-written by Alan Bennett and starring Maggie Smith), the sooo-eeey gets all the attention. The show has just opened in London, to strong reviews. The new musicals in New York right now are such gems “Aladdin” and “Bullets over Broadway” and “If/Then.” Frankly, I’d prefer swine before pearls.
