Is Juan Diego Flórez The World’s Top Tenor?
“L’Amour,” Juan Diego Flórez’s first solo album in four years, was released earlier this month. The new recording offers a personal survey of French operatic repertoire from Donizetti to the romantic outpourings of Gounod and Massenet. Many people think Florez is the top tenor right now. Rankings can be silly; all I know is that I will try to see him at the Met Opera this spring when he does “La Cenerentola” with another of my favorite singers, Joyce DiDonato.
