Dalai Lama Talks Sex In Hollywood
The Dalai Lama is a man of authentic compassion, so I will not criticize what he said at his appearance yesterday in California to an audience that included Sharon Stone, Jim Carrey, and Lupita N’yongo, who proved once again that she has won this year’s Oscar red carpet competition if not this year’s Oscar for supporting actress. Asked by moderator Ann Curry about same-sex marriage, the Dalai Lama responded that for those with religious beliefs which do not condone same-sex love — which he says Buddhism views as “sexual misconduct” — it is best to “follow one’s own teachings.” For secular and non-believers, he continued, he saw no reason to reject homosexuality. The final line drew applause, and Curry asked no follow-up.
