Natalie Under Fire From Orthodox Jews
Amos Oz’s “A Tale of Love and Darkness” is the best book I’ve read about what it felt like to live in Palestine after the Second World War, as conflict was raging and the state of Israel was being born. Natalie Portman, who is a most intelligent woman, is involved in a movie adaptation of Oz’s work, which is filming in Israel. But some ultra-Orthodox Jews aren’t happy. Apparently, the holy sites are too holy to desecrate with moviemaking. The ultra-Orthodox have been criticizing all things Amos Oz for years, so I’m not surprised they don’t like Miss Natalie’s project. Keep the cameras rolling!
