Of course not. There have been plenty of versions in which the eternal boy is played by a male. But the musical version — some form of which NBC will live broadcast in December — is associated with Mary Martin (pictured), Sandy Duncan, and Cathy Rigby. NBC has hinted that its iteration will star a young, presumably pop-star male. Can they utilize a hologram of Michael Jackson, who tried and tried to play the part in a movie? What about Daniel Radcliffe, who has been moving away from juvenile roles but, believe you me, would attract eyeballs? And don’t even mention Justin Bieber: NBC wants an acceptable-to-children choice, and the Biebs ain’t it anymore.
