Your Weekend: A Selective Guide
Movies: “I, Frankenstein 3D” is only worth watching in a theatre. As for indie fare, “Stranger by the Lake” is French, gay, and explicit. Television: “Music Makes A City” is about a civic orchestra in Louisville in the late 1940s. On Sunday, take a break from “Downton” and “Sherlock” with the eerie “True Detective.” Music: Now that Miss Renee Fleming has been announced to sing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl, sample her voice with an early project like “The Schubert Album.” Books: My old pal Sean Strub has written a terrific memoir entitled “Body Counts: A Memoir of Politics, AIDS, Sex, and Survival.” Sports: Checkout the Pro Bowl this weekend, opposite the Grammys because of the scheduling mess created by the Sochi Olympics. Finally: And if you want to watch great hockey and ice skating, you don’t need to watch the Olympics to do so. Both sports are on TV nightly.
