Bluray “Khartoum” Restores Gory Scene
As a young boy I thrilled to the exploits in the 1966 film “Khartoum,” about the sad end met by colonialist “Chinese” Gordon (Charlton Heston) in late-19th-century Sudan. Laurence Olivier‘s blackface performance as The Mahdi remains the only reason to view the film in its new Bluray release, especially because the Bluray contains the previously censored head-on-a-stick footage that follows the spear-killing of General Gordon.
