“Sherlock”: All Too Elementary Last Night
Hypesters call “Sherlock,” which returned last night on PBS, “a crime drama for those who don’t like crime dramas.” Really? This 90-minute episode looked like every hour-long drama on CBS with letters in its title. The title of the new installment was “The Empty Hearse,” playing off Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Holmes-return story “The Empty House.”The whiz-bang-boom visuals were extremely distracting from the story point that caused many of us to tune in in the first place: how did Sherlock survive from last season’s cliffhanger? The response to that question was meh, as was the episode as a whole. Deeply unsatisfying.
