The Latest Opera-Screeching Kid
Every time PBS fundraises and foists Jackie Evancho on us, I change the channel faster than Kim Kardashian changes husbands. Alas, there’s another darling diva about to take over the world, and her name is Amira Willighagen. This nine-year-old won “Holland’s Got Talent” on Saturday evening with a performance of Puccini’s “Nessun Dorma.” Amira sang the emotional aria from Puccini’s opera “Turandot” with a choir backing her up. I thought Aretha’s performance of that song was the eeriest, but little Amira is giving her some competition.
