“Sound Of Music”: Even BIGGER Ratings
More impressive news about that “Sound of Music” live broadcast earlier this month: Live-plus-7 ratings for the Dec. 5 telecast — that includes people who DVR’d it — push it to 21.837 million viewers and a 5.6 rating. That’s up from the 18.5 million viewers and 4.6 adults rating that tuned in the night of. With this info, the special R & H musical now outperforms every non-sporting NBC Thursday since 2004, when “Friends” (52.46 million) and “Frasier” (22.59 million) aired their final episodes over two consecutive weeks that May. No word yet what musical NBC will choose as a follow-up. I know they’d love to land Kelly Clarkson to star, but she isn’t Underwood/Andrews sweet and would have to be carefully cast in one of the classic Broadway shows. My choice for her: “Annie Get Your Gun.” She’d be terrific, though the material’s treatment of Native Americans is not easy to finesse.
