Snoop Doggy Dogg Is Now Snoopzilla
Like a butterfly emerging from a cocoon, the artist sometimes known as Snoop Dogg (and sometimes Snoop Lion) has once again shed his identity, announcing that he will now add Snoopzilla to his stable of names. (Was he inspired by the upcoming “Godzilla” movie, which released its underwhelming trailer yesterday?) This latest alter ego is the realization of Snoop’s funk music-making personality and comes to life with Dam-Funk’s new album: “7 Days of Funk.” Whether the man once known as Calvin Broadus is making rap like Snoop Doggy Dogg or reggae as Snoop Lion, these identities all happily coexist in the musician’s hazy artistic vision. Snoop’s latest incarnation, timed for the release of the new album on Tuesday, is inspired by Parliament-Funkadelic bassist Bootsy Collins, who at various times went by Bootzilla and a slew of other occasional alter egos.
