Her Majesty Now Coming To Broadway?
Helen Mirren was named best actress for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in “The Audience” at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards on Sunday. That’s just going to reinforce what’s obvious: when the Mirren vehicle comes to Broadway in the spring — I’m guessing the Golden Theater, even though it’s rather a small palace to house a monarch used to Windsor Castle — it will win even more awards: a Tony for Mirren for sure. Meanwhile, Dame Helen commented on her Evening Standard kudos by opining: “I’ve always felt playing Her Majesty that it’s actually Her Majesty who’s winning the award and not me.” I doubt the monarch feels that way, dear.
