New York Times Loves New Stanwyck Bio
Last night I went to a book party for Victoria Wilson‘s enthralling new biography, “Barbara Stanwyck: Steel-True.” Tout le monde was there, including the ghosts of Garbo, Robert Taylor, Stanwyck’s very good friend Joan Crawford, and of course Missy herself. I was all set to tell you the many reasons why you should buy Wilson’s book. But Janet Maslin, in a rave review in the New York Times this morning, has done it for me. She calls this story of the “Stella Dallas” and “Double Indemnity” star “glittering.” As it is. I can’t think of a better holiday gift for anyone who loves show biz that this jam-packed volume. Buy it! And then buy another.
