Gaultier Show Opens In Brooklyn

I’ve had the pleasure of spending time with French designer Jean-Paul Gaultier, and I can tell you that he is beaucoup fun. I remember a night at a brasserie near the Bastille in Paris, where JPG and I had champagne and oysters and laughed till we ached — a rare experience for me. Anyway, the Brooklyn Museum is opening a show devoted to him tomorrow: “The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk.” You don’t think someone as relentless cool as JPG would have a show in Manhattan. Hah! If Alexander McQueen can draw crowds at the Met, then I predict the Gaultier queues will be monstrous. Thank God I saw it before it opened!
