“Newroom” Finale Plugs Jedediah Purdy
The happy ending to last night’s finale of “The Newsroom” is something the alert viewer spotted weeks ago. But if the conclusion wasn’t a surprise the episode was first-rate nonetheless, a fitting wrap-up to an excellent second season. Most interesting footnote of the evening: writer Aaron Sorkin gave two plugs to a 1999 book by Jedediah Purdy called “For Common Things: Irony, Trust, and Commitment in America Today.” It’s a thin, thoughtful book that merits your attention.
