Liberace Pic Begins Emmy Coronation
Director Steven Soderbergh may not have been able to get a Hollywood studio interested in making his Liberace biopic, “Behind the Candelabra,” into a feature film, but Soderbergh is having the last laugh: the movie is picking up way more Emmys than it ever would have plucked awards in the Oscar derby. At last night’s Creative Arts Emmys, the run-up to the main event next weekend, the Liberace took eight statuettes. If Michael Douglas doesn’t win one on Sunday, it will be the biggest upset since Truman beat Dewey.
