Movies: I don’t think Vin Diesel will make as much off “Riddick” as off “Fast and Furious.” Jennifer Hudson as “Winnie Mandela” might have played better straight-to-TV. Television: Nothing new looks promising: luckily, there’s more “Breaking Bad” and penultimate “The Newsroom.” Music: Still trying to make up my mind about the change of direction represented by Nine Inch Nail’s new CD. Mado Robin (1918-1960) was a French coloratura soprano and this is supposedly one of the highest notes ever hit by anyone. Demented! Books: Marisa Pessl’s “Night Film: A Novel” comes highly recommended, but I haven’t been able yet to take the plunge. Sports: The NFL returns. And will there be a Nadal-Djokovic final? Finally: Anybody who thinks you can control a war zone once you start bombing knows very little about the history of war.
