“Captain Phillips”: Reviews Are Kinda Meh
This movie about a commercial shipping captain (Tom Hanks) and Somali pirates isn’t generating the reviews that would help such a grueling story do big business or win awards. Variety says: ‘Paul Greengrass‘ kinetic docudrama always impresses without ever connecting emotionally.’ Indiewire adds: ‘While proficiently made, the movie fails to go beyond the call of duty, mainly fueling the same cocktail chatter the events have already inspired.’ Wait for Netflix?
