Your Weekend: A Selective Guide
Movies: Love the title of this new horror release: “You’re Next.” As a fan of Wang Kar-Wai, I’ll have to see “The Grandmaster.” And “The World’s End” looks very entertaining. Television: Some PBS stations are re-airing “James Baldwin: The Price of the Ticket” on Friday. On Sunday, it’s the VMAs: will NSYNC perform? Music: Chinese water torture couldn’t force me to listen to John Mayer’s latest, “Paradise Valley.” Books: Amazing how many classics — “To Kill A Mockingbird,” “The Great Gatsby” — are on the Amazon best-seller list right now. Assigned summer reading? Sports: Their bats have come alive, but the Yanks still aren’t making the playoffs. New Yorkers should turn their attention to the Giants. Finally: I’m basking in the summer weather, but I’m ready for the kids to get off the streets and back to school.
