Burstein To Make Met Opera Debut
My pal Danny Burstein, most recently on Broadway in the critically acclaimed revival of “Golden Boy,” will make his Metropolitan Opera debut in the non-singing role of Frosch in the Met’s upcoming production of “Die Fledermaus.” The new production of Johann Strauss II’s famed operetta will be conducted by Adam Fischer and directed by Jeremy Sams (in his Met directorial debut). The work features new English-language lyrics by Sams and dialogue by Douglas Carter Beane. Die Fledermaus will open on New Year’s Eve in a gala celebration and continue for 14 performances through Feb. 22, 2014. Among Burstein’s fellow cast members will be Paulo Szot as Dr. Falke. Szot and Burstein co-starred in the acclaimed 2008 Lincoln Center Theater revival of “South Pacific” (pictured), which also starred Kelli O’Hara and Matthew Morrison.
