“Orange” Is The New Binge
If I had a dollar for everyone I know who’s been binging on the new Netflix series, “Orange Is The New Black,” I could retire the national debt. (At least the part devoted to farm subsidies.) This women’s-prison drama may not reach the heights of the ultimate women’s-prison drama, the 1950 movie “Caged,” but it’s sly and fun and deadpan. Also very moving at times. It’s alarmingly well-cast, especially Kate Mulgrew as the Queen Bee of the prison’s kitchen, and Natasha Lyonne as an artsy, wise-cracking lesbian. Highly recommended.
