Tuesday Morning Round-Up
Television: God forgive me, but I enjoyed the first episode (pictured) of “Naked and Afraid,” in which a man and woman must survive jungle life while buck bare. Theater: Mary Zimmerman’s Disney-funded musical of “The Jungle Book” just opened in Chicago. Some reviews are mixed but Variety loved it. Is this the next “Lion King”? Celebrity: Paula Deen’s legal team is invoking last week’s Supreme Court ruling in defending her in a discrimination lawsuit. Doesn’t she have enough controversy without wading into those waters? Television: The CBS adaptation of Stephen King’s “Under the Dome” is drawing big ratings. Can’t bring myself to watch it though. You? More Television: Keep your eyes out for the new Netflix series “Orange is the New Black.” It comes from “Weeds” creator Jenji Kohan and is set in a women’s prison. Episodes go online July 11. Movies: “Blue Is The Warmest Color,” a teen lesbian love story, may have won the top prize at Cannes but it won’t be France’s entry at the Oscars. More homophobia from the supposedly sophisticated country that had near-riots this year over same-sex marriage?
