Glastonbury In Its Post-Hippie Heyday

Glastonbury, underway this week in England, is the grandaddy of popular-music festivals in our age. Like its spawn — Coachella, Bonaroo — Glastonbury has gotten more commercial over the years, so it’s a good moment to remember when it was closer to its peace-and-love roots: the 1980s. Ian Sumner‘s 1984-89 photographs of all the shenanigans show it was a decade to remember for the fest. The Jesus “impersonator” is my favorite all-time Glastonbury fan.
