“Sopranos” Star Gandolfini Dies At 51
There’s a certain amount of tosh associated with the death of any beloved public figure. So I read some of the tributes to James Gandolfini with a dash of skepticism. David Chase, creator of “The Sopranos,” said, “He was a genius” and “He is one of the greatest actors of this or any time.” Really? One can be saddened by the death of a performer without going all mushy in the head. The fact is that Gandolfini, dying at 51, died too soon. It’s a very sorrowful day for everyone — family, friends, fans — who loved him. But to say that he was one of the greatest actors of all time: that’s a bit much, even in a time of grief.
