How To Shame A Cell-Phone User
Joyce DiDonato, from Prairie Village, Kansas, is my favorite currently performing opera diva, mostly for musical reasons. But her spunk also delights me. (Her fashion sense I am willing to excuse.) During a recital the mezzo gave at La Scala last weekend, just as she was performing the quiet ending of a Rossini aria, someone’s phone went off. She finished like the pro she is, but when she came back for a bow, she asked the audience member if it had been Rossini calling to check in. Not exactly the way Patti LuPone would handle it.
