“The Book Of Negroes” To Be Miniseries
The controversial Lawrence Hill novel “The Book of Negroes” will be adapted into a miniseries for BET in the U.S. and the CBC in Canada, after earlier plans for a big-screen adaptation. Clement Virgo is on board to direct. This 2007 novel is about a young girl taken from Africa and forced into slavery on a South Carolina plantation before she escapes to freedom in Nova Scotia. Hill’s novel was published in the Canadian and U.K. markets with the title “The Book of Negroes.” But historical sensitivity led Hill’s novel to be published in the U.S. market as “Someone Knows My Name.”
